None of that is nearly as stupid as the existence of 'show plates'. If I remember rightly, they exist because a while back the government decided to clamp down on number-plate manufacture in an effort to make it harder to get fake plates. People who are licensed to make them are able to charge an arm and a leg for 'number plates'. Meanwhile 'show plates' are available for about a tenth of the price, made to exactly the same standard by any random chancer, and legal to use on your car although not to sell for that purpose.
